- [Adding a fee to the Shopify cart, without a product](https://usenormalize.com/blog/shopify-cart-fee-without-a-product) · 2026-08-04 · Shopify has no native cart fee. The common hidden-product workaround leaks into collections, reports and carrier-calculated shipping rates. The supported mechanism is the Cart Transform function's lineExpand operation, which splits a cart line into priced components and produces a real fee line item; it runs on every Shopify plan when shipped inside a public App Store app, because only lineUpdate is Plus-gated.
